6 TIPS TO ENTERTAIN A BABY

Babies have a very short attention span so it is a good idea to have several options for amusement.

1.FOCUS ON ONE THING AT A TIME

It is helpful to focus on one thing at a time and make a change when you see a little clue that the baby is losing interest the toy.   A clue might be very subtle be so be ready to bring out a different toy or diversion before baby gets bored. Depending on the age and circumstances a baby might need to have their attention redirected every 10 or 15 minutes.

2.PLAY MUSIC

Even very young babies will become familiar with children’s songs.  It is a fun way for babies to learn language and be entertained at the same time.                                   

3.ALLOW TO PLAY IN FORBIDDEN AREA        

One good way to entertain a baby is to allow them access to an area they know they are not supposed to get into.  Such as a low kitchen cabinet. Maybe remove dangerous products and replace with plastic containers, pots and pans and other unbreakable items.    A baby will often play in this area for a good bit of time. If someone happens to be doing something in the kitchen at the same time a baby will be more content with others nearby.

4.BUILD A FORT

Even a young baby will enjoy a blanket or bedsheet draped over a table or chair. It is a cozy area and makes a comfortable play area with a few toys or pillows. An empty cardboard box can also make a fun fort that baby can crawl into.

5. A BUCKET OF WATER

This requires very close supervision.  A baby will be amused reaching into a bucket of water.  Throw in a few float toys or wooden spoons. They love to pour the water out of a small cup and watch it splash.  For smaller babies that stay seated, place them in the bathtub with no water while you get ready.  Do not leave them alone in the tub but they can be easily amused with tub toys while dry.

6. GO OUTSIDE

When weather outside is nice spread a blanket or sheet out in a shady area.  Bring a bag of various toys and books. Just being outside is very entertaining for babies.  Lots of sights and sounds to observe.
